Page 6 of 13 Installing JLive! Chat on Ubuntu/Debian With Ubuntu/Debian/Linux it really depends on what version of python you have running on your system. You can check which version of python is running on your system by issuing the following command at a shell prompt: python -V
Installing on systems running Python 2.5- Download and install the JLive! Chat desktop application from our download section. In particular you should download the installation .deb file designed for python 2.5.
- After installing the JLive! Chat desktop application successfully, launch the program, and proceed to add your operator access key file to the desktop application by going to File -> My Websites from within the JLive! Chat desktop application. You can download your operator access key file by going to Components -> JLive! Chat -> Operators from within your Joomla! administrator.
- After successfully adding your operator access key file to the JLive! Chat desktop application, you should be all set! You are now awaiting livechat requests from your website.
Installing on systems running Python 2.6- Download and install the JLive! Chat desktop application from our download section. In particular you should download the installation .deb file designed for python 2.6.
- After installing the JLive! Chat desktop application successfully, launch the program, and proceed to add your operator access key file to the desktop application by going to File -> My Websites from within the JLive! Chat desktop application. You can download your operator access key file by going to Components -> JLive! Chat -> Operators from within your Joomla! administrator.

Installing DependenciesIf you are experiencing missing dependency issues when trying to install JLive! Chat. Please ensure all the missing dependencies are installed by issuing the following command at a shell prompt: sudo apt-get install python-qt4-common python-pygame python-sqlalchemy python-pycurl miniupnpc libminiupnpc4 You may also need to seperately compile and install the python modules for miniupnpc and cjson. You can download the correct jsonlib package here. You can download the correct miniupnpc package here.
Please follow the instructions within the packages above for compiling and installing.
Some newer operating systems like Ubuntu 10 may have renamed some of the packages listed above. In which case you can search for the new package name by issuing the following command at a shell prompt: apt-cache search pyqt
Force Installing (Skip Missing Dependencies)If you feel that you have all the necessary dependencies and wish to force install the JLive! Chat desktop application, you can do so by issuing the following command at a shell prompt: sudo dpkg --force-all -i jlivechat_4.0.8_all.deb
