It sounds like you may not have the latest version component, plugin, module and desktop application installed. Please ensure your have v4.0.6 component, plugin, module and desktop application installed. You can check which version you are using by going to Extensions -> Install/Uninstall -> Components from within your Joomla administrator.

Chat no longer bases the website activity monitor expiration based on session timing... instead you can set your own custom expiration by going to Components -> JLive! Chat -> Settings... under the General tab, there is a setting named "Website Activity Monitoring Expiration:"... that is where you can specify the length of time the visitor should remain in the website activity monitor.
Please note, that if the visitor keeps moving around your website then their session expiration timer resets... the visitor will only expire from the "website activity monitor" after being idle for the amount of time you specify in your settings mentioned above.
